About Us
The American Book Collectors of Children's Literature (ABC's) is an organization dedicated to the enjoyment, collecting, preservation, and study of children's books.
It began in 1986 under the leadership of Billie M. Levy of West Hartford, Connecticut, a knowledgeable and passionate collector, whose extensive collection of illustrated children's books is included in the Northeast Children's Literature Collection (NCLC), housed in the Dodd Research Center at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT.
Membership in the ABC's is open to anyone who wishes to share and develop an enthusiasm for the books of childhood. Today there are chapters of the ABC's in several states, affiliated by mutual interests, by the adoption of a constitution and by-laws developed by the Connecticut chapter, and by the use of the copyrighted ABC logo.
The Connecticut chapter has meetings about ten times a year, many of which include visits to private collections, artists’ studios, and museums. It also publishes a newsletter twice a year with information about members, a calendar of upcoming events in the world of children’s books, and scholarly articles.
