A Visit to Walter Wick's Studio

When Walter Wick and his wife, Linda Cheverton Wick, first viewed the abandoned firehouse on John Street in Hartford, they walked through the dirt and debris of a boarded-up building that had been derelict for fifteen years. Despite its broken windows, three feet of water in the basement, and no plumbing or heating, Walter and Linda saw vast possibilities for a spacious light-filled studio, workshops, and storage areas, and even a large living room with facilities for guests... As the ABC group toured the converted firehouse, what members saw was so impressive, it was hard to imagine what came before. Linda met the ABC's at the door, then led the group on a tour of the first floor, where, in one room, such props as sets are stored on aisles of metal shelving. Upstairs, where abundant light from high windows lit spacious, airy working areas, the magic began... (Volume 17, No. 1)
